Challenge: |
Replacement device for flange mounted capnut terminators (potheads) used for lead cable entry into oil-filled switch on primary side of 15kV to 5kV, three-phase, substation transformer. Delivery deadline: 8 weeks.
|
Solution: |
Two piece casting set matching bolt pattern of existing pothead. Bushings with full current carrying capacity of previous PILC cable, also accepting internal connection from switch. Outer bushing interface accepting 600 Amp separable insulated connector fittings and closing tool permitting easy installation of connecting components. Vacuum casting process and material for oil compatibility. All tests and delivery of prototype within 7 weeks.
|
Product: |
Repair Bushing (three-phase) and Closing/Opening Tool
|
Key applications: |
The unique features of this solution include:
- vacuum cast, high dielectric silica sand filled thermal setting resin insulators
- electrical interface to accept mating 600 Amp Separable Insulated Connectors (ANSI/IEEE Standard #386)
- full compatibility with mounting and connections of replaced pothead
|
Benefits: |
The benefits of this solution are diverse:
- no need to replace or modify oil switch: lower costs for conversion process from PILC to solid dielectric cable and extended product life
- compliance with safety and environmental standards where lead cables and soldering are "prohibited or are being phased out"
- Patton & Cooke Co. bushing assembly inhibits oil drainage from within the switch thus reducing possible switch failure from reduced oil volume
